Registry Repair Tools - Getting Most Out Of Them

In my experience the trick to getting the most of registry repair tools is to do some preparation before you start using them.

Before you do a registry repair make sure your PC is as decluttered as possible (Registry cleaners will fix a lot of PC problems but there are some things that can only be fixed by you).

First, clear out the ununsed programs on your computer
If you’re anything like me, you’ll have loads of useless shareware applications installed on your PC that you’ve downloaded over time. These things take up space on your PC, probably slowing down hard disk access. There’s also a chance that some of these apps are slowing down the startup of your PC.

Cleaning up the apps now will allow the registry repair tools to get rid of any garbage the uninstalled apps leave behind.

Next, clean out your startup folder
To delete items from your startup folder just right click on them (in the start bar) and select delete. Anything that starts up un-necessarily, slows you boot up.

Finally, clean out the applications that startup by stealth
When some applications are installed (especially commonly used, mainstream applications) they create auto-updating entries in Windows. This is great, until all the applications are starting up and checking for updates as soon as you switch on your PC.

To get rid of the un-necessary ones, select Start - Run and type “msconfig” then click OK.

Click on the startup tab and delete any applications that you know you don’t need starting up automatically. Be careful not to remove any essential Windows components.

After you have prepared your PC, click here to download registry repair tools and scan your PC.

Fix Registry Errors And The Scourge Of Vista

No matter how much I realize you need to fix registry errors, Vista never ceases to amaze me…

I was so excited to get my newest PC with a copy of Vista installed. I had seen the pictures of the new-look interface and thought it looked great. What a shock I was in for when I realized the extent to which I would not enjoy using my Vista PC.

Firstly the PC is a high-spec dual processor with 2GB RAM (so there are no issues with the PC not being able to handle Vista). That doesn’t stop the registry issues though!

I work on my PC from home. Up to 3 times a day the PC would freeze permanently, requiring a “pull the plug from the wall” reboot, and once or twice a day it would experience a blue screen of death.

I suppose this is to be expected as I am performing highly complex algortihmic tasks such as using a wordprocessor and surfing the ‘net.

All in all, Vista does not have my seal of approval (and is unlikely to for a very long time). A new, pretty interface is no match for a stable operating system- I had less problems with Windows 3.1!

Windows Registry Repair Software — Being Careful

Before downloading that Windows registry repair software consider what you are about to do to your computer.

Firstly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing a registry scan and repair. In fact, most computers could benefit from a regular registry clean.

However, if you use Windows Vista, watch out!

Vista is temperamental at the best of times so you want to ensure that anything that is playing with your registry is doing so in the best manner possible. Do not download, scan and clean your Windows Vista registry with just any old software. Check with the software manufacturer that the version you are using is Vista certified.

Once you have scanned and repaired your Windows registry and have some performance gains, use your registry scan software to schedule regular registry maintenance. Doing regular checks of the registry once a week will ensure your PC doesn’t lapse back to it’s old sluggishness.
